Wow and wow! What a great turn out! The three homes are beautiful. I felt as if we went back in time to the 1800s or early 1900s -- a much simpler time, old friends together enjoying the holiday. Yes, the food was outstanding, all home made. The decorations are just beautiful. Everyone should call the host homes and tour the houses. What a treat that would be!
We started at 6:15 p.m. and finished at 11:00 p.m. We wondered where the time went. What great fun!
A big Thank You to our host homes.
Here is the recipe for Peppermint-Eggnog Punch
1 qt. peppermint ice cream
1 qt. dairy eggnog
1 cup rum (optional)
4 12-oz cans of ginger ale,
Chilled
candy canes (optional)
Reserve 2 or 3 scoops of peppermint ice cream in the freezer to use for garnishing the punch.
In a large chilled bowl stir remaining peppermint ice cream till softened. Gradually stir in eggnog and rum.
Transfer to punch bow. Add ginger ale. Float reserved ice cream scoops on top.
Serve immediately with candy canes.
Makes about 28 (4-ounce) servings.

Ashe Plantation resident Clay Campbell recently wrote to Marc Morgan of the NC Department of Transportation:
"Mr. Morgan - It is my understanding that once funds were distributed to
your district, Ashe Plantation road repairs were among three priorities
in your district. This communication came to me via both Melinda
Johnston of The Charlotte Observer as well as Elizabeth Slocum at
Sen. Goodall's office. Now that your funds have been allocated (I
understand that was to take place 7/1/07) please let me know how soon
work will begin in Ashe Plantation. Please be sure to respond as soon as
you can. Thank you. Clay Campbell"
Mr. Morgan replied:
"We are still planning to do the work; however, the funds have not been allocated yet. The state budget still has not been approved in Raleigh by the legislature. Until the state budget is approved, the funding is not there yet. Once we have the money the work will be scheduled and completed on the roads that are part of the state system.
Thanks,
Marc "
